Every resident brings with them an incredible story. Spend a few minutes talking with someone you meet in the Bistro, and you’ll hear stories of resilience, grace, love, learning, and purpose. Stories are how we make sense of the world. And they are the foundation of our relationships.
Not all the stories we hear take us for a trip down memory lane. Some stories are about what happened yesterday, or what someone is looking forward to next month. And some stories, like this one, blend the past with the present.
Shirley and Leon are the type of welcoming people who sit at a table for four so they can invite others to join them for dinner. While initially hesitant about moving, Shirley has found she loves her new home. “Having someone clean your apartment and do the sheets for you? I love it!” she said.
Having someone else take care of the cleaning allows them time to engage in what they want to do. They are both active, taking fitness classes, walking the courtyard paths, and, in Shirley’s case, working. Shirley spends two days each week working in their family-owned winery, Sobon Wine. As Leon says, “She makes the rules!”
